Do you lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?

Is HEIC higher quality than JPG?

Why does JPG still exist if HEIC is better?
Network effects. JPEG is an open standard embedded in billions of devices and every web pipeline. HEIC is encumbered by HEVC patent licensing, which slowed industry adoption.
Should I convert all my HEIC files to JPG?
No — keep HEICs as masters, convert copies for sharing. Converting your whole library to JPG doubles its size and throws away future flexibility.
